This is a fantastic holiday cottage for those who want peace and seclusion but don’t want to travel vast distances to coast and countryside attractions. The accommodation is exactly as described, very clean, comfortable, well equipped and well maintained.
The outdoor facilities are excellent including the swimming lake, idyllic for sitting and relaxing with a book and drink, plenty of chairs, sun loungers, tables and BBQ for al fresco dining, table tennis and walks from the doorstep. We had a warm welcome from the owners who were very helpful and informative about local places to visit and things to do. We were greeted with a delicious home baked cake – a lovely touch, and tomatoes freshly picked from the greenhouse.
We enjoyed daily visits from the chickens who rapidly had us trained to provide breakfast for them each morning. The whole area is full of wildlife of one form or another which was a joy to watch from the lakeside or conservatory. The choice of places to visit within a short commuting distance is more than enough to keep you occupied and even after two weeks we still hadn’t seen everything we wanted to.
A trip to France with the Shuttle is highly recommended, as is a visit to Canterbury, Faversham and Rochester. There are also a number of National Trust properties within a 40 – 50 minute drive including Chartwell and Ightham Mote both well worth a visit. Our stay at the cottage during the first two weeks of September coincided with the annual Challock village Goose Fair, this is also well worth a visit if you are around at this time of year. Try the Barn Shop for your fresh bread supplies. We have no hesitation recommending the cottage to others and plan on returning again to recharge our batteries.
